Scam Description

He asks you for a “model code activation”. For me it’s whatsapp

Insight from CredCheck

It sounds like you encountered AnikanConcilio1998@hotmail.com who asked you for a "model code activation" for WhatsApp. This is a red flag, and here's why:

  • WhatsApp doesn't use model codes for account activation. There's a standard verification process that involves receiving a code via SMS or phone call.

  • Sharing such codes can grant access to your account. Model codes or verification codes are typically unique and grant access to your account. Sharing them with someone else puts your account at risk.

Here's what you should do:

  1. Do not share any codes with AnikanConcilio1998@hotmail.com: If you haven't already, don't provide any codes you receive for WhatsApp activation or any other account.

  2. Change your WhatsApp password: As a precaution, change your WhatsApp password to a strong, unique password that you don't use for any other accounts.

  3. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for WhatsApp (if available): If WhatsApp offers 2FA, enable it immediately. This adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second verification step when logging in.

  4. Report AnikanConcilio1998@hotmail.com to Facebook: Since the scam originated from a Facebook profile (james.mike.113598), report AnikanConcilio1998@hotmail.com to Facebook so they can investigate and take appropriate action.

ScamCheckup Tips

Social media scams can take many forms, but here are some unique tips to avoid falling victim to them in the future:

  • Be cautious of friend requests or messages from unknown people: Don't accept friend requests or messages from people you don't know or who seem suspicious. Scammers often create fake profiles to target potential victims.

  • Never share verification codes or account access codes: Legitimate companies will never ask you for verification codes or account access codes through social media messages.

  • Beware of offers that seem too good to be true: If someone on social media offers you something that seems incredibly good, it probably is. Scammers often lure victims in with promises of free gifts, money, or other rewards.

  • Be mindful of what information you share online: Avoid sharing personal information like your phone number, home address, or birthdate on social media. Scammers can use this information to target you for further scams.

  • Review your privacy settings regularly: Social media platforms offer various privacy settings that allow you to control who can see your profile information and posts. Review your privacy settings regularly and adjust them as needed.

  • Use strong passwords and enable 2FA: As mentioned earlier, using strong, unique passwords for all your social media accounts and enabling 2FA whenever possible are crucial security measures.

By following these tips, you can make it much more difficult for scammers to target you on social media. Remember, it's important to be skeptical of unsolicited messages and offers, and to protect your personal information online
